Inyo, Inyo

Dearest star:
heading west,
over the valley.

Saxon’s gods:
signs of spring,
sand-hill cranes.

Blue-eyed grass:
hunters’ weather,
prairie-dogs’ town.

Still-hearted friends:
Sierra’s winter times,
drawn oat-straw pipes.

Pronghor’s rhythms:
Rocky Mountain sheep,
mountains up and down.

Rhymes of inert fortunes:
beautiful women revealed,
rocked beside a buoy’s light.

. . . . .
