Cavalier, Off the Cuff
Sit down, lovers say —
broken hearts on a leash
Body fluids pour forth
like waste-water on the sun
Could we say it might
sound like something else
Bliss-filled migrations
of lesser creature comforts
Poet-cuffs frayed at rest
in pitch-pine havens
Maybe swan-song research
rebuilds voice-bridges
Yet we still yearn to hold
those who got away
Stern mandates of heaven
suggest no more lovers
. . . . .
