Mountain Iris streaks with dark purple veins,
yellowish-white bases.
Horsemint – wild oregano: purplish-rose flowers
with dense, spicy heads.
Colorado Columbine petals draw out long spurs
between nectared sepals.
Mountain lupine reaches up one to three feet –
petals blue to creamy-white.
Purple-fringe shows off its deep purple flowers
and yellow-tipped stamens.
The common Aspen Daisy blooms light-blue
to lavender, sometimes white.
Pasqueflowers: lavender tepals before leaves,
then feathery plumed heads.
Monkshood sepals resemble helmets, deep blue-
purple to a yellowish-green.
Mountain Harebell – Bluebell-of-Scotland: bears
single blue bell-shaped blooms.
Chiming-Bells bud pinkish-lavender in clusters —
changing colors for the bees.
Alpine Forget-Me-Not: tiny, fragrant dark-blue-purple
petals with central yellow rings.
Sky Pilot: purplish-blue clusters smell sweet or skunky
–sport bright yellow antlers.
All the species sway and play together in the wild
after visitors leave the park.
Each flower has its say about how, when and where
–quite possibly, even who.
